Zedoary, also known as white turmeric (Curcuma zedoaria), is a plant species belonging to the genus Curcuma in the ginger family (Zingiberaceae). Native to India, this species of saffron root is widely used as a medicinal plant, particularly in East Asia, where it grows mainly in tropical rainforest regions. The rhizome of zedoary is large and branched; the leaves can grow up to one metre long and the flowers have a strong scent. Zedoary is known to be commonly used to treat stomach, gallbladder and liver complaints.
