- Diseases of the lower respiratory tract that are associated with mucus congestion and require a gentle increase in secretion mobilisation
- Acute bronchitis
- Acute bronchiolitis
- Cystic fibrosis (cystic fibrosis)
- Recommendation: First use under medical supervision, especially in patients with hypersensitivity of the respiratory tract and in children.
- Many diseases of the lower respiratory tract are associated with a build-up of secretions in the airways. This disrupts the self-cleaning function of the airways, also known as mucociliary clearance. In addition, the thick mucus provides an ideal breeding ground for bacteria, which can then colonise the airways and cause inflammation of the mucous membranes.
- It is therefore important for people with respiratory diseases to liquefy the thick mucus and restore the self-cleaning function of the airways. Activating the so-called ciliated cells in the mucous membrane also facilitates the removal of the liquefied secretions.
- The hydrogen carbonate contained in the Emser® inhalation solution is particularly important for cystic fibrosis patients. This is contained in high concentrations in Natural Emser Salt. The fact that their body lacks hydrogen carbonate due to illness causes the secretions in the lungs to solidify. The addition of hydrogen carbonate liquefies the viscous mucus and improves its removal from the lungs. The flow properties are demonstrably improved.
- Emser® hypertonic inhalation solution physically liquefies viscous mucus in the lower respiratory tract. It also improves the self-cleaning function of the respiratory tract mucosa. The liquefied mucus can then be removed more easily and the airways are gently cleared.
- The Emser hypertonic 4 % inhalation solution is suitable as a carrier solution for the inhalation of medicines that dilate the bronchial tubes. These include, for example, beta-sympathomimetics and anticholinergics. It cannot be mixed with medicines containing ambroxol and bromhexine. Please refer to the instructions for use.
- Chronic diseases of the lower respiratory tract can have very different symptoms. People with chronic bronchitis, asthma or COPD, for example, suffer from increased mucus production and an associated narrowing of the airways. In contrast, cystic fibrosis is a metabolic disease. It leads to an altered composition of bronchial secretions, as the water-salt balance is disturbed by a genetic defect.
- However, the consequences of these diseases are very similar: mucus collects in the bronchial tubes and patients find it difficult to cough it up. It then provides an ideal breeding ground for bacteria, which leads to frequent infections and associated inflammation of the lower respiratory tract.
