Dr Kottas Women's Tea is a herbal tea with red clover and sage to support a relaxed menopause.
DR. KOTTAS Women's Tea is a special composition of flavoursome herbs for a relaxed menopause. Lemon balm, passion flower and valerian provide calm and serenity. Lady's mantle with its high tannin content is traditionally used for women. Sage with its antiperspirant properties, yarrow and red clover - rich in phytoestrogens - are classic herbs that promote the well-being of women during the menopause.
Lemon balm (Folium melissae)
- This perennial, usually highly branched plant grows to a height of around 30 to 70 cm. Its egg-shaped leaves have a lemon-like odour and taste. The typical odour is due to the essential oil (with the main components citral and citronella).
- Effect: Lemon balm has a calming effect and helps with nervous sleep disorders and gastrointestinal complaints. Its antispasmodic effect alleviates stomach and bile problems.
Lady's mantle (Herba Alchemillae)
- This perennial shrub, which grows practically throughout Europe as well as in Siberia and the Near East and can reach a height of 50 cm, has lobed, serrated leaves and inconspicuous, yellow-green flowers. Lady's mantle tends to grow at higher altitudes in bushes, meadows and roadsides. The above-ground parts of the plant collected during the flowering period from May to August are used medicinally.
- Effect: Lady's mantle herb contains tannins and flavonoids and is used to treat mild, non-specific diarrhoea and gastrointestinal disorders.
Valerian (Radix Valerianae)
- This strong, perennial plant grows to a height of over 1 metre and is native to the whole of Europe and temperate regions of Asia. It blooms from June to August with light pink to white flowers that have a pleasant odour. The medicinally used rhizome (the biennial plants are richest in active ingredients) develop a strong, characteristic odour when dried.
- Effect: Calming for nervous agitation and restlessness, difficulty falling asleep, nervous, cramp-like pain in the stomach and intestines.
Sage (Folium Salviae)
- Sage is a 20 to 60 cm tall shrub that is native to the entire Mediterranean region. It blooms from May to July with a light purple flower. The leaves, which are rich in tannins and essential oils, are used for medicinal purposes.
- Effect: Due to its antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, secretion-promoting and antiperspirant properties, sage is used as a rinse for inflammation of the mouth and throat and as a tea drink for indigestion, flatulence, inflammation of the intestinal mucosa and diarrhoea.
Yarrow (Herba Millefolii)
- Yarrow usually grows to a height of 0.5 metres and has two to three pinnately dissected leaves. The small flower heads of white or pink-coloured ray florets bloom from June to October.
- Effect: The essential oil and bitter substances make yarrow an aromatic bitter remedy. The main areas of application are gastrointestinal complaints (inflammation, diarrhoea, flatulence) and the stimulation of bile secretion. A yarrow decoction is also suitable for treating wounds.
