- Structurally, coenzyme Q10 is a substance that is related to some vitamins and belongs to the group of ubiquinones. Coenzyme Q10 is particularly present in organs such as the heart, kidneys and liver, but it can also be found in the muscles.
- Q10 is stored in the mitochondria of cells, which play a central role in our metabolism. Many of us will certainly remember from our school days that the mitochondria are also known as the "power stations of the cells".
- The human body can also produce coenzyme Q10 itself. Unfortunately, this endogenous function naturally declines over the years, meaning that the concentration of Q10 in our organs and muscles can also fall. It is therefore advisable to consume a sufficient amount of Q10 with food. Animal foods such as fish, eggs, liver or muscle meat contain a lot of Q10. Plant sources of Q10 include nuts and their oils, pulses and maize - although they have a significantly lower Q10 content.
- Vitamin B6 contributes to normal protein and glycogen metabolism. Glycogen is the energy store in liver and muscle cells.
- Vitamin B1 contributes to the normal functioning of the heart and nervous system. Like niacin, vitamins B2, B5 and B6, it contributes to normal energy metabolism.
- Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) also contributes to normal mental performance.
- Vitamin B12 contributes to normal energy metabolism and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
- Biotin and vitamin B2 contribute to normal skin function.
