- Monk's pepper owes its name to its berry-like fruits, which are very similar in appearance and flavour to those of real pepper. Monks in particular used the crushed berries as a substitute for pepper. But the plant was not only used as a spice: The tradition of using monk's pepper dates back to the 4th century BC: Hippocrates, the forefather of modern medicine, recommended using the plant for problems with menstruation.
- In the Middle Ages, monk's pepper was used to treat gynaecological diseases and women's ailments in general. Even today, the medicinal plant is mainly used in gynaecology.
Dosage form
How to use
- Take the film-coated tablets with sufficient liquid (e.g. with a glass of water). Do not chew the tablets.
- For an optimal treatment effect, continuous intake over 3 months is recommended (also during menstruation).
- If symptoms persist after three months of continuous use, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Ingredients
- The active substance is: One film-coated tablet contains 20 mg extract (as dry extract) from monk's pepper fruits (Vitex agnus castus L., fructus) (7-11:1). Extractant: ethanol 70 % (v/v).
- The other ingredients are: Povidone 30, highly dispersed silicon dioxide, potato starch, lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, opadry amb II (consisting of poly(vinyl alcohol), talc, titanium dioxide (E171), glyceryl monocaprylocaprate and sodium lauryl sulphate).
