Actilite® from Advancis Medical is a thin viscose gauze coated with manuka honey and 1 % manuka oil. The dressing protects the wound, supports healing and facilitates the drainage of exudate through the gauze.

The smooth adhesive effect of Actilite® has been enhanced by the combination of high quality Manuka oil with Manuka honey. The combination of Manuka honey and Manuka oil has been shown in vitro to be effective against a number of important wound infecting organisms including MRSA, VRE and Providentia stuartii. Manuka oil also helps to fade scars and post-bleeding on the skin by promoting new cell growth. Actilite is ideal for granulating and epithelialising wounds. It ensures that moisture levels remain low to prevent maceration, while still providing a moist wound environment that is optimal for healing.

Indications

Actilite can be used on all wounds where a primary dressing is indicated:

• Superficial wounds, cuts and abrasions
• Burns
• Surgical wounds
• Infected wounds
• Venous and/or arterial wounds
• Pressure sores
• Graft sites

Can aid debridement when used in conjunction with Activon Tube.

Made from 100% medicinal manuka honey

The MGO content of Manuka Honey is measured using the Non Peroxide Activity (NPA) scale. The gold standard for the effective antimicrobial activity of Manuka Honey is between 9.5 and 15 on the NPA scale. Application

• Clean the wound thoroughly.
• Dry the surrounding tissue.
• Ensure that the sterile dressing is unopened and undamaged before use.
• Place the dressing (regardless of which side) on the wound surface.
• Several dressings can be placed next to each other or cut to the appropriate size.
• The dressings can be placed next to each other to cover larger wounds. The dressings can be cut to size for smaller wounds.
• Cover the wound with a suitable secondary dressing. Depending on the degree of exudation, this can be an Advazorb foam or an Eclypse Superabsorber wound dressing.
• Store at room temperature.
• Dressing change: Depending on the clinical findings, Actilite can remain on the wound for up to 7 days. Dilution by wound exudate reduces the effectiveness. To ensure that the honey layer is always effective, the dressing should be changed as soon as it becomes noticeably discoloured. Removal of the dressing can be facilitated by moistening the wound bed with a saline solution. Due to the nature of honey, it can become firmer in cold temperatures and softer in warmer temperatures. If the product is very firm, warm it between your hands before use to soften it. If the product has become too soft, place it in a colder place for a few minutes, e.g. in the refrigerator.
• Contraindication: Do not use if the patient is allergic to bee venom, bee products or essential oils. Actilite contains glucose. Monitor the values in patients with diabetes. Some patients experience pain during application; depending on the sensitivity of the wound, it may be necessary to select an appropriate level of analgesia. If pain persists, discontinue use and irrigate the wound with saline solution. Warnings and precautions Actilite is a single use product. If it is used on more than one patient, cross-contamination or infection may occur. Opening the dressing pack will compromise the sterile barrier. All unused dressings should be discarded.
