The trace element copper is essential for biological systems and is mainly stored in the bones, muscles and liver. It is a component of numerous enzymes. Copper citrate is a readily bioavailable form and is ideally suited for effective compensation. A copper deficiency can impair cellular energy supply, oxygen utilisation and cell metabolism (connective tissue).

Laboratory diagnostics often show high copper levels in the serum in the case of infections, stress or inflammation, although there is an intracellular deficiency. In the case of long-term intake of zinc, care should be taken to ensure an adequate supply of copper.
