Sleeping time
Falling asleep time is the time between going to bed and actually falling asleep. This varies greatly from person to person, but should ideally be no more than 20 minutes. If the time it takes to fall asleep is greatly extended, the total sleep time is reduced. This can be very unpleasant for the person affected and cause stress.
Jet lag
Normally, the "internal" clock (circadian rhythm) regulates the human sleep-wake rhythm. The disruption of the sleep-wake rhythm caused by flying across several time zones is called jet lag. As a result of jet lag, the time it takes to fall asleep can also be extended and in some cases even lead to insomnia.
Shift work
However, people in special forms of work (alternating day and night work) are also affected by disruptions to the daily sleep-wake rhythm. Due to the changing working hours, the "internal clock" has to be constantly reset - with similar effects to jet lag.
What is melamed® and what function does it fulfil?
melamed® contains the hormone melatonin. This endogenous substance is produced in the pineal gland on the basis of serotonin. Its production and secretion begins with the onset of darkness and reaches its peak at around three o'clock in the morning. Melatonin production decreases steadily with age, but this does not necessarily lead to problems falling asleep. The role of melatonin as a driver of the sleep rhythm is scientifically recognised for shift work and travelling to other time zones. Melatonin helps to alleviate the subjective feeling of jet lag and shortens the time it takes to fall asleep. This can prevent problems caused by insomnia.

How to use
- Recommended intake for jet lag: Take on the first day of travelling shortly before going to bed. Subsequently, take 1 capsule on the first days after arrival before going to sleep.
- Recommended intake to shorten the time it takes to fall asleep: A sleep-promoting effect of melatonin can be expected if 1 capsule is taken shortly before going to bed.
- Under no circumstances is melamed® a substitute for medically prescribed sleep medication. To shorten the time it takes to fall asleep, the duration of use should not exceed 13 weeks.
- Important information: melamed® is not a substitute for a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
- Warnings and precautions: May impair the ability to react and the ability to drive. Not suitable for children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Do not use in people with kidney or liver dysfunction.
