- How well magnesium can be absorbed by our body depends on the solubility of the various magnesium compounds. The different pH values that prevail in our digestive tract play a major role in this. Each magnesium compound is differently soluble under different pH conditions and the solubility depends on the existing pH value. Basically, the higher (= more basic) the pH value, the poorer the solubility of the magnesium compound and thus its usability. Our intestines are only able to absorb magnesium when it is released from a bond in the stomach. If this does not happen, it moves on to the large intestine and is excreted unutilised.
- You should also always pay attention to the magnesium content of the various compounds as this differs significantly. Magnesium oxide, for example, provides a very high magnesium content, while magnesium citrate contains only a small amount of magnesium.
