Thealoz® Duo eye drops are used to protect, moisturise and lubricate the eye in the treatment of moderate to severe symptoms of dry eyes.

Thealoz® Duo is recommended for the treatment of dry, red, watery and tired eyes. It is a preservative-free solution and is also suitable for contact lens wearers.

A key ingredient in Thealoz® Duo is trehalose, a natural substance (disaccharide). One of the most fascinating properties of trehalose is that it enables numerous plants, insects and microorganisms to survive long periods of drought, extreme heat or cold, as well as extreme stress caused by oxidative stress or UV radiation, unscathed, by protecting their cells from damage caused by these factors (e.g. from dehydration). As a result, Thealoz® Duo effectively protects the surface of the eye from damage caused by dryness, heat, cold, oxidative stress and UV light.

The second main ingredient (hence ‘Duo’) is hyaluronic acid. It acts as a natural lubricant, preventing friction between the eyelid and the cornea. Hyaluronic acid improves the stability of the tear film and promotes the regeneration of the corneal and conjunctival epithelium.

Thealoz® Duo is available in the patented multi-dose ABAK® system as a phosphate-free, pH-neutral solution without preservatives, which can be used for 3 months after opening. When the ABAK® bottle is squeezed, the solution flows through the antibacterial filter membrane (0.2 µm). When pressure on the bottle is released, the solution is reabsorbed and filtered to remove air and bacteria. The patented ABAK® system ensures reliable protection against bacterial contamination. This makes Thealoz® Duo ideally suited for use following eye surgery, LASIK or laser therapy. Regardless of the pressure applied, the ABAK® bottle always dispenses the same drop size. This drop size is sufficient to fill the conjunctival sac.

Directions for use

• If required, instil 1 drop into each eye several times a day. Thealoz® Duo can be used whilst wearing contact lenses.
• Instructions and method of use: Wash your hands thoroughly before use. Do not use any tools to open the bottle. When using Thealoz® Duo for the first time, you will notice that, due to the unique filter system in the bottle (see product description), it takes longer for the first drop to come out. Gently pull your lower eyelid downwards, look upwards and instil one drop into the conjunctival sac. Gently close your eye after use. Screw the cap back onto the bottle after use.
