Discover SymbioLact® Plus capsules to support your intestinal health. With 6 selected strains of lactic acid bacteria and biotin, it contributes to the maintenance of a normal intestinal mucosa. Ideal after antibiotic therapies.

In terms of surface area, the intestine is the largest interface in our body: with its many folded structures, it has the surface area of two tennis courts. Food components and fluids enter our body and metabolic products leave it via the intestinal mucosa. A functioning intestinal mucosa is the prerequisite for a healthy metabolism. It is therefore important that the intestinal mucosa is supplied with sufficient nutrients. Intestinal flora plays an important role in this.

What does our intestinal flora do?

  • The intestinal flora is the entirety of the microorganisms that colonise our intestines. This includes various yeasts, fungi and, above all, bacteria. Researchers have so far documented around 1,000 types of bacteria, and it is estimated that there are more than 40,000 species. Most types of bacteria are not harmful to us. They use the intestine as a habitat and some of them are even beneficial.
  • The composition of our intestinal flora - the entirety of all microorganisms in the intestine - depends on many factors and is individual to each person. External influences can have a positive or negative effect on the intestinal flora. A balanced, high-fibre diet ensures that sufficient food is available for the intestinal bacteria. An unbalanced, one-sided diet can also lead to a change in the bacterial composition. Medication, especially antibiotics, can also have a major impact on the intestinal flora Read more Close all microorganisms in the intestine.
  • Antibiotics are used to kill harmful bacteria. However, the substances they contain not only kill harmful bacteria, but also target the entire intestinal flora Read more Close all microorganisms in the intestine. This is why a course of antibiotics can cause long-lasting damage and should be used with caution. A common side effect of antibiotics is diarrhoea, known as antibiotic-associated diarrhoea.
Lactic acid bacteria - now in capsule form

SymbioLact® PLUS contains six different strains of natural intestinal bacteria from the upper and lower digestive tract. The bacteria are freeze-dried and protected in the vegetarian capsule shell. Each capsule contains at least 10 billion bacterial cultures or 1x1010 colony forming units (CFU) - more than most comparable products.

SymbioLact® PLUS contains the following bacterial strains:

  • Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis BB-12®
  • Lactobacillus acidophilus LA-5®
  • Lactococcus lactis
  • Lactobacillus rhamnosus
  • Lactobacillus paracasei
  • Lactobacillus salivarius
As soon as the bacteria in the intestine come into contact with liquid, they become active.

Our bacterial strains do not produce histamine.

All bacterial strains used in SymbioLact® PLUS do not produce histamine, making the product suitable for people with histamine intolerance (HIT). Intestinal bacteria differ in many properties - some abilities are specific to one species, others even depend on the strain used. One example of this is the ability to produce the biogenic amine histamine. There is literature that describes certain Lactobacillus species as histamine producers. However, all the strains in our SymbioLact products have been tested for histamine production and the result is clear: they do not produce histamine.

Biotin for a healthier intestinal mucosa

SymbioLact® PLUS contains the vitamin biotin. Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal mucous membranes. The intestinal mucosa is the largest mucous membrane in the body and supplies the cells of the intestine with nutrients. Biotin also contributes to the maintenance of normal skin and to the normal function of energy metabolism and the nervous system.
