Strepsils lozenges contain flurbiprofen. Flurbiprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with pain-relieving, fever-reducing and anti-inflammatory properties.
Indications:
- Strepsils lozenges are used for short-term relief of symptoms associated with a sore throat, such as inflammation of the throat lining, pain and swelling, and difficulty swallowing, in adults and children aged 12 years and over.
Consult a doctor if symptoms worsen or do not improve after 3 days.
Strepsils® is particularly recommended for the symptomatic relief of sore throats, for severe to very severe sore throats, and for a swollen and reddened throat. A sore throat is associated with painful inflammation of the throat lining. This manifests in symptoms such as redness, swelling and difficulty swallowing.
Strepsils® contains the active ingredient flurbiprofen. It not only relieves pain but also has anti-inflammatory properties, thereby reducing swelling. Flurbiprofen is particularly suitable when antiseptics and local anaesthetics are no longer sufficient to provide rapid and lasting relief from a sore throat. The effect sets in after just 30 minutes and lasts for up to 4 hours. It has a pleasant honey and lemon flavour.

Directions for use
Recommended dosage for adults and children aged 12 and over:
- Take 1 lozenge and let it dissolve slowly in your mouth.
- Keep moving the lozenge around in your mouth as you let it dissolve.
- The lozenge should start to take effect within 30 minutes.
- After that, if necessary, take 1 lozenge every 3 to 6 hours.
- Do not take more than 5 lozenges within 24 hours.
Do not use in children under 12 years of age.
Notes: You should use only as many lozenges as you need to relieve your symptoms for the shortest possible period. If irritation occurs in the mouth, treatment with flurbiprofen should be stopped.
Duration of use: Do not use Strepsils for longer than 3 days unless your doctor has prescribed it. If you do not feel better or if your symptoms worsen, or if new symptoms appear, speak to a doctor or pharmacist.
Ingredients
- The active ingredient (which is responsible for the medicine’s effect) is flurbiprofen 8.75 mg.
- The other ingredients are: macrogol 300, potassium hydroxide, lemon flavouring (contains butylhydroxyanisole (E320)), levomenthol, invert sugar (honey), liquid glucose (contains wheat starch and sulphur dioxide (E220)) and liquid sucrose.
