Vitamin D and vitamin K are required for numerous processes in the body. Vitamin D requires vitamin K as a co-factor in the so-called carboxylation process, in which calcium is bound to osteocalcin and stored in the bones.
Vitamin D can be produced by the body from cholesterol under the influence of UV-B radiation. In Central Europe, this is best done in the summer months. In the darker months of the year, it is important to supplement vitamin D with food. Vitamin D plays an important role in the normal function of the immune system, in maintaining normal bones, teeth and muscles and in cell division. It also contributes to the normal absorption and utilisation of calcium and phosphorus.
Vitamin K2 is needed, among other things, to transport calcium into the bones and prevent it from being deposited in the arteries and other soft tissues. Vitamin K2 is contained in the form of MK7 (menaquinone 7), which is characterised by its high bioavailability. It is produced by bacteria and is found in fermented foods, for example. The intestinal flora can also produce small amounts of vitamin K2 itself.
Vitamin D and vitamin K are fat-soluble vitamins, which means that they are best absorbed together with fat. In this formulation, the vitamins are dissolved in high-quality wheat germ oil, which also proves to be a very good source of vitamin E. The vitamins are absorbed directly via the mouth.
