Pro Zoon CARDIO ZOON tablets for dogs and cats are a feed supplement designed to support normal energy metabolism.
CARDIO ZOON is a novel dietary supplement with a unique formulation that is easy to dose, designed to support energy metabolism. Since the discovery that, for example, a taurine deficiency that can be remedied through diet may be a cause of heart failure, the dietary provision of specific nutrients that are missing or present in insufficient quantities (CARNITINE, TAURINE, OMEGA-3 EPA fatty acids) – alongside the restriction of sodium intake – has been recognised as a significant dietary measure in the prevention and treatment of heart disease. Deficiencies, accompanied by corresponding symptoms, can arise, amongst other things, from a reduced dietary intake, impaired absorption by the digestive tract and/or increased excretion via the kidneys.
- L-carnitine: Is produced in the body from lysine and methionine and is required for the transport of free fatty acids into the mitochondria of the heart muscle. The fatty acids bound to L-carnitine are transported through the mitochondrial membrane into the ‘cellular powerhouses’ to form the body’s primary organic energy source, ‘ATP’. Conversely, L-carnitine also has a cell-protective function by removing potentially toxic metabolic by-products from the mitochondria in the form of carnitine esters. A severe carnitine deficiency can lead to a metabolic disorder in the heart muscle cells, resulting in thickening of the heart walls and, consequently, reduced cardiac output.
- Taurine (2-aminoethylsulfonic acid): Is an essential component for maintaining vital physiological functions. These include the binding of taurine to bile acids, thereby increasing the solubility and excretion of cholesterol; the regulation of intracellular calcium levels to protect the heart muscle from disturbances in intracellular calcium homeostasis; and the preventive effect of taurine against cardiac arrhythmias by modulating the calcium flux into and out of the heart muscle cells.
- Hawthorn (Crataegus oxyacantha): The dried leaves, flowers and fruits of the plant are used, as these contain the highest levels of oligomeric procyanidins and flavonoids (hyperoside, vitexin, rutin). These substances are responsible for the contractile effect. Hawthorn’s unique position stems from the fact that the flavonoids support contractile function whilst the procyanidins promote blood circulation. Oligomeric procyanidins are rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract in dogs following oral administration.

Directions for use
- As early as possible: At the first signs of declining performance, in cases of exhaustion, noticeable tiredness or when long walks become a problem: targeted L-carnitine and taurine supplementation with CARDIO ZOON supports heart function and blood circulation.
- Can be combined effectively to strengthen muscles: To increase muscle strength as an adjunctive dietary measure in combination with conservative treatment: ACE inhibitors, diuretics.
Feeding recommendation:
The tablet doses listed below should be administered in the morning and evening respectively.
- Cats, small dogs – ½ tablet
- Dogs 10–20 kg – 1 tablet
- Dogs 20–40 kg – 1–2 tablets
- Dogs 40–80 kg – 2–4 tablets
A response to the dietary supplement is usually evident within 1–4 weeks, characterised by an increased appetite and greater activity.
If the animal responds well to CARDIO-ZOON, a course of treatment at regular intervals over 6 months is recommended
