Clove buds come from the clove tree, which is native to the Moluccas. The clove tree can grow to a height of over 10 metres; cloves have been known as a spice in Europe since the Middle Ages. Clove buds are picked by hand before they bloom. They are used as a spice in Christmas biscuits and curry mixes. In naturopathy, they are used for oral care and to treat colds and digestive complaints.
