Chamomile blue, also known as true chamomile, is an annual herbaceous plant that grows throughout Europe. Blue chamomile can grow up to 50 cm tall and has characteristically fragrant white flowers. The deep blue colour of the essential oil is produced during distillation when chamazulene is formed. Camomile has been known as a medicinal plant since ancient times. In naturopathy, blue chamomile is used for respiratory, stomach and intestinal complaints as well as skin problems.
