The rose is a deciduous shrub and is considered the "queen of flowers"; it has lent its name to the entire plant genus. The Damask rose originates from the Persian region and is said to have been introduced from there by the Crusaders. The typical form of Rosa damasena is slightly climbing rose-like with slightly nodding pink flowers. The species that is cultivated today as an oil rose in Turkey, Morocco, Bulgaria, India, Persia and Russia is called Rosa damascena trigintipetala.
