Polybactum® vaginal suppositories help to reduce and protect against bacterial vaginosis. They inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria, form a protective film over the vaginal mucosa, lower the pH level and reduce odour.

A healthy vagina is naturally colonised by many harmless microorganisms. Under normal conditions, they coexist in harmony and form a protective mechanism against vaginal infections.

The most common species are lactobacilli. They are responsible for the physiologically produced acidic vaginal environment (pH 4–4.5). Alongside the lactobacilli, other species may also be present, such as streptococci, enterococci, enterobacteria and other very rare species.

A balanced vaginal flora helps to prevent fungal infections, known as mycoses (usually caused by the yeast Candida albicans), and other potential pathological changes.

An imbalance in the vaginal flora can be caused, for example, by

taking antibiotics
Repeated treatment with antifungal medication
Very heavy periods
Hormonal changes (e.g. pregnancy or the menopause)

Polybactum® vaginal suppositories are formulated to adhere to the vaginal wall and form a protective barrier. Such an imbalance, as well as conditions associated with a significant reduction in healthy lactobacilli or the presence of external aggressive microorganisms, increase the risk of a vaginal infection.

How does Polybactum® work?

Polybactum® contains polycarbophil (a mucoadhesive substance) and lauryl glucoside.
Polybactum® vaginal suppositories (ovules) are formulated to adhere to the vaginal wall and form a protective barrier. It also lowers the pH level and reduces bacterial growth. This protects the vaginal mucosa from infections (including infections caused by Gardnerella vaginalis) and helps to control vaginal inflammation.
Polybactum® is harmless to vaginal lactobacilli and therefore has no harmful effect on the natural vaginal flora.

Directions for use

Each vaginal suppository (ovulum) should beinserted deep into the vagina.

Following appropriate treatment for acutebacterial vaginosis, use Polybactum® asfollows:

3 ovules per week, withtwo days off following each day of use
If necessary, waituntilthe end of your period.
Repeat this treatment regimen for2 consecutive menstrual cycles (3 treatment cyclesin total).
In the event of pregnancy, starttreatment with Polybactum® immediately aftertreatment of the acute phase

Do not use if you are known to be hypersensitiveto one or more of the ingredients in thisproduct.
Ifyouexperience an unexpected reaction, stop usingtheproduct and consult a doctor.
Do notuseat the same time as other intravaginaltreatments.
Polybactum® maybe usedduring pregnancy,butuse shouldbe discontinued once the waters have broken.Toavoidinteractions with other medicines,youmust alwaysinformyour doctor or pharmacistof any other ongoing treatments.
