The healthy vagina is naturally populated by many harmless microorganisms. Under normal conditions, they live together in harmony and form a protective mechanism against vaginal infections.

The most common species are lactobacilli. They are responsible for the physiological acidic vaginal environment (pH value 4-4.5). In addition to lactobacilli, other species may also be present, such as streptococci, enterococci, enterobacteria and other very rare species.

A balanced vaginal flora helps to prevent fungal infections, so-called mycoses (usually caused by the yeast Candida albicans), and other possible pathological changes.

An imbalance in the vaginal flora is caused, for example, by

Taking antibiotics
Repeated treatment with antimycotics
Very heavy menstrual bleeding
Hormonal changes (e.g. pregnancy or menopause)

Polybactum® vaginal suppositories are formulated to adhere to the vaginal wall and form a protective barrier. Such an imbalance, as well as conditions associated with a sharp decline in healthy lactobacilli or the presence of external aggressive microorganisms, increase the risk of vaginal infection.

How does Polybactum® work?

Polybactum® contains polycarbophil (a mucoadhesive substance) and lauryl glucoside.
Polybactum® vaginal suppositories (ovules) are formulated to adhere to the vaginal wall and form a protective barrier. The pH value is also lowered and the multiplication of bacteria is reduced. This protects the vaginal mucosa from infections (including Gardnerella vaginalis infections) and reduces vaginal inflammation.
Polybactum® is harmless to vaginal lactobacilli and therefore has no harmful effect on the natural vaginal flora.

How to use

Each vaginal suppository (ovule) should be inserted deep into the vagina.

After appropriate treatment of acute bacterial vaginosis, use Polybactum® as follows:

3 ovules per week, with two application-free days following one application day
If necessary, wait until the end of menstruation .
Repeat this treatment regimen for 2 consecutive monthly cycles (3 treatment cycles in total).
In case of pregnancy, start treatment with Polybactum® immediately after treatment of the acute phase

Instructions for use:

Polybactum® is only suitablefor vaginal use.
Do not use in case of known hypersensitivity to one or more of the ingredients of this product.
In the event of an unexpected reaction, discontinue use and consult a doctor.
Do not use at the same time as other intravaginal treatments.
Polybactum® can be used during pregnancy , but use should be discontinued after rupture of the membranes. To avoid interactions with other medicines , your doctor or pharmacist must always beinformed of all other ongoing treatments.
