In addition to tannins and phenol glycosides, willow bark contains salicin and acylated salicin derivatives, which are converted to salicylic acid in the liver. This well-known chemical compound is responsible for maintaining a normal core temperature, among other things. However, the effect of willow bark is more intensive than the salicin content, as the other ingredients may enhance the positive properties of salicylic acid.
