Who is OMNi-BiOTiC® CAT & DOG suitable for?

The microbiome of cats and dogs fulfils vital tasks and is very similar in composition and function to that of humans. Among other things, the friends in the animal intestine are responsible for ensuring that food can be utilised and that indigestible or harmful substances are excreted.

Important vitamins, enzymes, antibiotically active substances and hormones are also produced by the intestinal bacteria, as are important short-chain fatty acids. These are particularly important for maintaining the health of the intestinal mucosa, as they supply its cells with energy. As in humans, the intestinal mucosa itself forms an effective barrier against harmful substances and pathogenic viruses, parasites and germs. In addition, up to 80 % of all immune cells in the body are located in the intestine, which, together with the intestinal barrier, are of central importance for animal health.

Every pet owner has experienced their own four-legged friend struggling with intestinal problems, and these often manifest themselves in frequent defecation: the animal's body tries to get rid of foreign or harmful substances as quickly as possible. The faeces are very soft to liquid and sometimes contain food residues or foreign substances. Diarrhoea is usually a symptom of an existing problem and often occurs when the animal's intestinal flora is out of balance.

OMNi-BiOTiC® CAT & DOG is an innovative probiotic that has been specially developed for cats and dogs to stabilise the sensitive animal intestinal flora. As with our products for human owners, OMNi-BiOTiC® CAT & DOG is characterised by the proven OMNi-BiOTiC® quality:

Two scientifically tested bacterial strains especially suitable for cats and dogs - Enterococcus faecium NCIMB 10415 and Lactobacillus acidophilus CECT 4529 - which are particularly well suited to stabilising the intestinal flora, are combined in OMNi-BiOTiC® CAT & DOG. The speciality: The high number of beneficial microbes contained guarantees that even the smallest possible daily dose contains at least 1.25 billion viable and reproducible bacteria.

The intestinal bacteria for cats and dogs are supplemented with the high-quality dietary fibre MOS (mannan-oligosaccharides), which serves as food for the beneficial bacteria in the animal intestine and thus as a basis for life.

What can unbalance the animal intestinal flora?

Think about your own gut: when does your digestion rebel? Exactly, when your diet changes (e.g. when you reach for high-fat fast food due to a lack of time), when you experience increased stress or when medications such as antibiotics wipe out the beneficial bacteria as well as the harmful germs. It's the same with your pet!

Indigestion caused by food

Diet-related diarrhoea is one of the most common complaints of the animal's digestive tract. Abrupt food changes lead to diarrhoea and/or vomiting in up to 49% of cats: This is because the food serves as nourishment for the intestinal bacteria - and if this is changed, this deprives important microbes of their basis of life and the composition of the intestinal flora is thrown out of balance. Feeding errors (spoilt food, too much sugar, fat or lactose) and food allergies also frequently cause digestive problems in four-legged friends.

New home and new owner

A change in familiar surroundings can cause animals a great deal of stress. A change of location (e.g. due to the owner moving, accommodation in a boarding kennel, etc.) or a new carer (due to a change of owner) often triggers diarrhoea in cats and dogs. In puppies and kittens, diarrhoea is particularly common after suckling, because at this time the young animals are often separated from their mother, experience a new home with new owners and become accustomed to normal food - many changes that can stress the soul and intestines.

Antibiotics: Clear-cutting in the gut

Antibiotics are a "wonder weapon" for both humans and animals when it comes to fighting harmful germs. Unfortunately, however, these drugs cannot distinguish between good and bad bacteria, so every antibiotic therapy also destroys the beneficial "helpers" in the animal gut. The result: pathogenic germs (e.g. Clostridium perfringens, salmonella) can spread almost unhindered and not only cause diarrhoea, but also permanently change the composition of the intestinal flora, so that the intestinal bacteria are permanently impaired in the performance of their tasks.

How to use

OMNi-BiOTiC® CAT & DOG is suitable for cats and dogs of all ages. The powder is added to the food (wet or dry) or a little liquid (activation time is not required), the feeding recommendation depends on the weight of the pet:

• Animals up to < 16 kg: 1 x daily ½ measuring spoon (= 1.25 x 109 CFU*)
• Animals from 16 to < 30 kg: 1 x daily 1 measuring spoon (= 2.5 x 109 CFU*)
• Animals from 30 to < 40 kg: 1 x daily 2 scoops (= 5 x 109 CFU*)
• Animals over 40 kg: 1 x daily 2-3 measuring spoons (= 5 or 7.5 x 109 CFU*)

If required, the use of OMNi-BiOTiC® CAT & DOG is recommended for at least 2-4 weeks. Half the dosage can also be administered for long-term use.

* CFU = colony-forming units of intestinal symbionts
