OCUsalin® night is a hypertonic eye ointment with 4.5 % sodium chloride and 0.4 % sodium hyaluronate in a 5 g tube. This medical device is intended for the temporary relief of the symptoms of corneal oedema.
What is OCUsalin® night?
OCUsalin® night tube contains 5 g of sterile, hypertonic eye ointment. The preparation contains sodium chloride as the osmotically active substance, sodium hyaluronate, vaseline oil, vaseline, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, disodium hydrogen phosphate, lanolin alcohol, water and hydroxymethyl glycinate. The viscous nature of OCUsalin® night allows it to adhere to the surface of the eye for longer, where the protective and moisturising effect can also unfold at night.
When should OCUsalin® night be used?
OCUsalin® night is indicated to relieve the symptoms of corneal oedema, for example changes in vision and pain, even at night. The high sodium chloride content means that the osmolarity of OCUsalin® night is higher than that of tear fluid. This difference in concentration is necessary for oedematous fluid resorption. The use of OCUsalin® night leads to an increased salt concentration in the tear film, which results in water being channelled from the corneal layers to the surface. The sodium hyaluronate in OCUsalin® night forms a protective layer on the corneal surface that moisturises and protects the eye. Sodium hyaluronate makes the application of a hypertonic ointment more comfortable thanks to its mechanically protective and lubricating properties.

How to use
- Wash your hands thoroughly before using OCUsalin® night.
- After opening OCUsalin® night, do not use the first drop as it may be too watery before the ointment comes out of the tube.
- Tilt your head back slightly and pull the lower lid of your eye down to form a small pocket. Hold the tube vertically over your eye.
- Gently squeeze the tube to insert a small amount of OCUsalin® night into the eye to be treated.
- It is best to apply a small amount of the ointment before going to bed.
- If you need another dose during the day, use a small amount of ointment every three or four hours, or as directed by your doctor.
- Make sure that the tip of the tube does not touch your eye or fingers.
- Close properly with the cap after use.
