Recommended for the regeneration of the nasal mucosa. The valuable mineral salts in Nisita® nasal ointment moisturise and nourish dry nasal mucosa. Helps treat a blocked nose, e.g. due to a cold. Following nasal surgery or accidents, you should seek your doctor’s advice before using Nisita Nasal Ointment.

Mucous membranes of the respiratory tract

The respiratory tract is lined with mucous membrane, which ensures that the respiratory organs function properly. Glandular cells and so-called cilia are embedded in the mucous membrane of the upper respiratory tract. The glandular cells produce a fluid (secretion) which moistens the inhaled air (approx. 10,000 litres daily) whilst simultaneously trapping dust, dirt, pathogens, etc. Through the action of the cilia, which are in constant motion, the trapped foreign particles are transported outwards or – via the throat – to the stomach, as if on a conveyor belt. If the mucous membranes become dry, their natural function is no longer guaranteed. This facilitates the entry of pathogens and impairs the senses of smell and taste. It can also lead to irritation of the mucous membrane.

Our nose – function and role

The nose has many functions that help to prevent respiratory tract diseases. The air we breathe is brought almost to body temperature as it passes through the nose; in other words, cold air is warmed in winter and very hot air is cooled in summer. In addition, the air we breathe is moistened and filtered in the nose, so that particles of dirt are removed and only clean air reaches the lungs. For this reason, we should always breathe through the nose rather than through the mouth. However, this is not possible if the nose is not functioning properly and the nasal mucosa is too dry.

A dry nose is a common problem. It affects people of all ages and occurs throughout the year. The scabs and crusts that form when the nose is dry are not only a nuisance; in some cases, they can also be very painful. The risk of infection is increased, and breathing, as well as the senses of smell and taste, are impaired. This leads to a significant reduction in quality of life.

Dry mucous membranes can have various causes:

  • Side effects of certain medicines
  • Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes or rheumatic disorders, also frequently lead to dry mucous membranes
  • Heated and air-conditioned rooms
  • Dust or other irritants
  • Sometimes dry mucous membranes are simply age-related.
Recommendations and treatment options

People have been making use of the healing properties of salt (sodium chloride) for centuries. For example, spending time in salty sea air or at health resorts where salty spring water is evaporated over wooden slats (gradierwerke) helps to relieve the symptoms of respiratory conditions. The salts contained in the spray create a moist environment in the nasal cavity due to their hygroscopic properties.

Nisita® nasal ointment can therefore be used for a wide range of purposes

For prevention

  • Protects the nasal mucosa from drying out in dry air
  • Prevents irritants from coming into contact with the nasalmucosa
For treatment

  • Moisturises the nasal mucosa
  • Loosens scabs and crusts
  • For supportive treatment of a runny nose in infants and children
  • Improves nasal breathing and may therefore help to reduce snoring
For aftercare

  • Supports the regeneration of damaged nasal mucosa in cases of a cold, nosebleeds and following surgery.
  • Nisita® Dosing Spray is also available for use with a dry nasal mucosa.

Dosage form
Nasal ointment

Directions for use
  • Apply a strip of ointment approximately 1 cm long into each nostril several times a day. Insert the tip of the tube as far as possible into each nostril, squeeze out a small amount of ointment and distribute it evenly over the nasal mucosa by gently massaging the nostrils. The inner surfaces of the nose can also be coated using a cotton bud to which Nisita® nasal ointment has been applied. The ointment should be applied several times a day, particularly before going to bed.
  • Instructions for use: For hygiene reasons and to prevent infections, please note that each dose should only be used by one person. The tip of the tube should be wiped clean after use.
  • Duration of use: If necessary, Nisita® nasal ointment can also be used over a longer period. If there is no improvement after 14 days of treatment, please consult your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Notes: When in daily use, Nisita® nasal ointment should always be kept in its folding box to prevent any damage to the tube caused by, for example, sharp or hard objects. Nisita® Nasal Ointment contains, as its ointment base, a mixture of liquid and solid fats, which may change if the product is not stored correctly (below 15°C or above 25°C). At higher temperatures, the ointment may separate, meaning that when the product is used, a small amount of oil may initially leak from the tube opening, whilst if stored in a cool place, dispensing the ointment may be slightly more difficult. To ensure optimal dispensing, the ointment should always be squeezed out of the tube from back to front to prevent any damage to the tube, which may occur, for example, if it is bent repeatedly.
