Nicotinell® Mint 1 mg - lozenges, 96 ST

Product information "Nicotinell® Mint 1 mg - lozenges"

Nicotinell® Mint 1 mg lozenges are an over-the-counter medicine containing the active ingredient: nicotine for gradual smoking cessation. The ideal nicotine replacement therapy for smokers with low to moderate dependence.

Nicotinell Mint lozenges belong to a group of medicines that are used to help you give up smoking. Nicotinell Mint lozenges contain nicotine as the active ingredient.

By sucking, the nicotine is slowly released from the lozenge into the oral cavity and absorbed into the body via the oral mucosa.

This medicine is used to help patients stop smoking. The nicotine in Nicotinell lozenges alleviates nicotine withdrawal symptoms and the desire to smoke when quitting smoking or temporarily reducing smoking, thus facilitating smoking cessation. For smokers who are motivated to quit, Nicotinell lozenges prevent relapse by relieving withdrawal symptoms and cravings.

Patient counselling and support usually increase the success rate.

Nicotinell Mint lozenges are indicated for smokers aged 18 and over.

As an alternative to chewing gum, you can also use Nicotinell lozenges, which are especially suitable for denture wearers, are discreet to use and have a refreshing mint flavour. They do not burn and have a pleasant flavour. You can obtain tips on the correct sucking technique from your pharmacy.

How to use

Dosage for adults over 18 years of age

Suck a lozenge when you have a craving for a cigarette. Take1 lozenge every one to twohours. Normally 8-12 lozenges a day are sufficient; however, if you still have a craving for a cigarette, you can suck more lozenges. However, do not exceed 24 lozenges/day of the 1 mg strength (for bothsmoking cessation and smoking reduction). Do not take more than 1 lozenge per hour.

Nicotinell lozenges should primarily be used for smoking cessation.

  • Smoking cessation

To increase your chances of giving up smoking, you shouldstop smoking completely at the start of usingthe lozenges and for the entire duration of treatment.

The duration of treatment varies from person to person. Treatment should usually last at least3 months. After 3 months, the number of lozenges should be gradually reduced. Treatment should be stopped when the dose has been reduced to 1 to 2 lozenges per day. Use of products such as Nicotinell Mint lozenges beyond 6 months is generally not recommended. However, some former smokers may require a longer treatment period to prevent a relapse to smoking .

Talk to your doctor if you have been taking the lozenges for longer than 9 months.

Appropriate counselling can help you to stop smoking.

  • Smoking reduction with subsequent smoking cessation

The use of Nicotinell lozenges during smoking breaks shouldreduce the desire to smokeand thus prolong the smoke-free phase. The aim should be toreducesmoking as much as possible.Cigarettes should bereplacedstep by step with Nicotinelllozenges. If, after 6 weeks, you have notbeen able to at least halvethe number of cigarettes you smoke each day, you should seek professional help. As soon as you feel able to do so, you should stop smoking completely. However, not later than 4 monthsafter starting to use Nicotinell lozenges. After that, the number oflozengesshouldbe reduced step by step, e.g. bygiving up one lozenge every 2-5days.

If you have not been able to stop smoking completely within 6 months, you shouldseek professional help. Regular use of Nicotinell lozenges beyond 6 months is generally not recommended. However, it is possible that some former smokers may need longer treatment to avoid relapse. Appropriate counselling can help you to stop smoking.

Instructions for use

  1. Suck a lozenge until you perceive a strong flavour.
  2. Then leave the lozenge between your gums and cheek.
  3. When the flavour subsides, start sucking again.
