Selenium is a trace element that is contained in various enzymes and proteins and is involved in various metabolic processes, e.g. that of thyroid hormones. Selenium is also important for supporting the immune system. Selenium also contributes to normal sperm production. Skin and hair also need to be supplied with selenium. The trace element is found in many organs of the human body, with the highest proportion found in the skeletal muscles.
