Melgisorb® Plus from Mölnlycke®: Sterile alginate dressing for heavily exuding wounds. Promotes healing through a moist wound environment.
Alginate dressing for moderately to heavily exuding wounds
Melgisorb Plus absorbs large quantities of wound exudate. During absorption, the alginate fibres form a soft, moist gel, which in turn creates a moist wound environment that promotes the healing process. The gel can be easily removed by rinsing with 0.9 % saline solution.
Melgisorb Plus is soft and flexible and can be cut to the required size. Melgisorb Plus is non-sensitising and is intended for a wide range of wounds, both infected and non-infected.
It can be used on shallow wounds and wound cavities.
- Excellent absorption capacity for high levels of exudate
- Retains fluid and reduces the risk of maceration
- Does not adhere to the wound or surrounding skin
- Soft, comfortable and mouldable to the body
- Excellent wet strength, allowing removal in one piece
Areas of application of Melgisorb Plus
- Melgisorb® Plus is suitable for a wide range of moderately to heavily exuding infectious and non-infectious wounds. These include pressure ulcers, venous and arterial ulcers, diabetic ulcers, extraction sites, post-operative wounds and skin lesions as well as other external traumatic wounds.

Application
- Select a dressing from the Melgisorb Plus range and open the packaging by pulling the tabs apart.
- Apply Melgisorb Plus to the moist wound bed. Shallow wounds: Select an appropriately sized dressing to cover the entire wound. Deep wounds and wound cavities: Cut the pad to a suitable length and loosely fill the wound cavity.
- Cover Melgisorb Plus with a suitable secondary dressing, e.g. Mepilex Border Flex. Melgisorb Plus can be applied under compression.
Changing and removing the dressing:
- Change Melgisorb Plus when it has become fully absorbed. Melgisorb Plus can be left on the wound for several days. This depends on the condition of the wound and clinical practice.
- Remove the secondary dressing and dispose of it properly.
- Remove Melgisorb Plus by carefully cleaning/rinsing the wound with saline 0.9% or other suitable solution. A non-gelled Melgisorb Plus dressing will become moist in contact with saline. Dispose of used dressings according to current protocol. Melgisorb Plus is sterile. The dressing must not be used if the inner packaging is damaged or has already been opened. Do not re-sterilise.
