Microlax® Microclyster is a non-prescription medicine with the active ingredients: Sodium citrate, dodecyl (sulfoacetate) sodium salt, sorbitol. For use in constipation in the rectum in adults and children, etc.

In the case of constipation, the intestinal contents accumulate in the rectum and a large proportion of the water is removed. The stool becomes hard and dry. However, even hard stools still contain a relatively large amount of water. This is where Microlax comes into play. The water bound in the hardened stool is released, causing the thickened stool to soften so that the bowel can be emptied easily and without discomfort.

Microlax acts directly on the stool and not on the intestinal wall, i.e. there is no irritation of the intestinal mucosa. It is not absorbed through the intestinal mucosa. Any excess is excreted with the faeces, which means that no delayed bowel movements occur.

Gentle evacuation occurs within 5 to 20 minutes.

• for constipation in the rectum in adults and children, such as occurs with - chronically suppressed urge to defecate (travelling, work), certain diseases, e.g. multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, unbalanced diet (low-fibre diet, lack of fluids), mental disorders, stress, depression, etc. The use of medicines, e.g. iron supplements, etc. can occur.
• to facilitate bowel evacuation after operations, during pregnancy and labour, in elderly or bedridden patients, in high-risk patients and children
• for bowel cleansing before rectoscopies

How to use

Microlax is a single-use ready-to-use enema for rectal use:

1. Hold the tube by the lower neck and pull off the cap with a slight twist.
2. To facilitate the insertion of the tube neck, the tip is moistened by squeezing out a drop and the drop is distributed.
3. In adults, the neck of the tube should be inserted completely into the rectum.
4. The tube is squeezed firmly to empty the contents into the rectum.
5. To prevent the solution from flowing back into the tube, the tube must remain compressed until it is completely removed from the rectum.

Microlax can be administered in the most comfortable position for the patient; it is not necessary to lie down during the 5-minute dwell time, which should be observed. Adults, adolescents and children over 3 years of age use one tube if necessary. In persistent cases, a second tube may be necessary.

Ingredients

• What Microlax contains - The active ingredients are: Sodium citrate , dodecyl (sulfoacetate) sodium salt and sorbitol. 1 tube of 5 ml contains 450 mg sodium citrate, 45 mg dodecyl (sulfoacetate) sodium salt and 3125 mg sorbitol.
• The other ingredients are Glycerol, sorbic acid and purified water.
