Mepilex Border Ag consists of a soft silicone coating (Safetac®) on the wound side, an absorbent wound pad made of polyurethane foam containing silver sulphate and activated charcoal, a layer of highly absorbent polyacrylate fibres, a non-woven fabric and a film that is permeable to water vapour but impermeable to water.

Mepilex Border Ag is a self-adhesive, soft, silicone-coated foam dressing that effectively absorbs exudate, maintains a moist wound environment and has an antimicrobial effect.

Mepilex Border Ag contains silver sulphate, which releases silver ions on contact with fluids to form an effective barrier against bacteria and inactivate many wound-specific pathogens (bacteria and fungi), as demonstrated in an in-vitro study. By reducing the number of microorganisms, Mepilex Border Ag also reduces odour formation.

In the in-vitro study, Mepilex Border Ag was shown to inactivate wound-specific pathogens for up to seven days.

Safetac® is a unique silicone adhesive technology that reduces pain for patients and minimises trauma to the wound and intact skin.

Areas of application

Mepilex Border Ag is suitable for use in moderately to heavily exuding wounds, such as leg and foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, tumour wounds, 2nd degree burns, traumatic and surgical wounds, where maintenance of a moist wound environment, drainage of exudate, gentle fixation and effective antimicrobial action are required.
Mepilex Border Ag can be used on infected wounds as part of a holistic treatment approach under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
Mepilex Border Ag can be used under compression.

Foam dressing
Size: 7.5 x 7.5 cm
Wound pad size: 4.5 x 4.5 cm

Application

Please note that local hygiene measures must be observed before and during dressing changes.

Clean the wound with saline solution or water in accordance with medical standards.
Dry the skin surrounding the wound thoroughly.
Remove the protective film and apply the dressing with the adhesive side to the wound. Do not overstretch the dressing.
To achieve the best possible results, Mepilex Border Ag should overlap the wound edges by at least 2 cm.

Mepilex Border Ag is intended for short-term use of up to four weeks. For long-term use, a doctor should be consulted for reassessment. Mepilex Border Ag should be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional.

Dressing change interval

Mepilex Border Ag can remain on the wound for up to seven days or as long as indicated by normal clinical practice, depending on the patient and the wound situation and surrounding skin.
Initially, more frequent dressing changes may be necessary, as the amount of exudate may increase at the beginning due to a change in treatment.
