The ConvaTec Aquacel® Ag Foam adhesive foam dressing sterile offers an innovative solution for the treatment of exuding wounds. With its unique technology of silver ions and hydrocolloid fibres, it promotes wound healing.

Aquacel® Ag Foam is an antimicrobial foam dressing with silver and reliable wound edge protection. It combines the comfort and absorption capacity of a foam dressing with the power of silver ions and the healing-promoting properties of the gel-forming Aquacel® Ag wound contact layer.

Designed for use as a primary dressing, Aquacel™ Ag Foam dressings can be used under medical supervision for the treatment of exuding acute and chronic wounds that are at risk of infection or show signs of infection.

Areas of application

Aquacel® Ag Foam is suitable for the treatment of acute and chronic, moderately exuding wounds that are infected or at risk of infection:

• Wounds with existing infection or increased risk of infection
• Ulcera cruris
• Venous stasis ulcers
• Ulcera cruris of mixed aetiology
• Arterial ulcers
• Pressure ulcers
• Diabetic foot ulcers
• foot ulcers
• Surgical wounds
• Second degree burns
• Traumatic wounds

Aquacel® Ag Foam can be used as a primary dressing for superficial wounds and from a wound depth of 3 mm as a secondary dressing in combination with a wound filler, e.g. Aquacel® Ag+ Extra.

Dosage form

• Foam dressing sterile
• Dressing size: 10 x 10 cm
• Wound pad size: 7 x 7 cm

Application

Before applying the dressing, the wound and wound environment should be cleaned with an adequate wound cleansing solution - for example with sterile saline solution.

Preparation and application of the dressing:

• Select the size and shape of the dressing so that the central absorbent pad (area within the adhesive window) is 1 cm larger than the wound area.
• Remove the dressing from the sterile packaging and avoid touching the wound contact surface and adhesive surface (if applicable). Remove the protective film before using the adhesive foam dressing.
• If necessary, the foam dressing can be cut to size.
• Hold the foam dressing over the wound and align the centre of the dressing with the centre of the wound. Place the wound pad directly on the wound. Smooth the adhesive edge of the adhesive foam dressing.
• Ensure that the dressing is not stretched during application. Smooth the adhesive edge of the adhesive version. Ensure that the joints are sufficiently flexed to guarantee the patient's mobility.
• If the foam dressing does not have an adhesive edge or the adhesive foam dressing has been cut to size with an adhesive edge, it should be fixed in place with a suitable fixation dressing or adhesive tape.
• The special shapes (heel, sacral) can be used for anatomical areas that are difficult to treat, such as the heel or sacral area.
• After covering the wound, dispose of the unused part of the product.

Removing the foam dressing:

• The foam dressing should be changed when clinically indicated (e.g. leakage, bleeding, increasing pain). The recommended maximum wearing time is seven days.
• The wound should be cleaned at appropriate intervals.
• To remove the foam dressing, press lightly on the skin and lift.

Duration of application:

• Aquacel™ Ag Foam foam dressings can be worn for up to 7 days. If clinically indicated, the dressing should be changed sooner. The need for Aquacel™ Ag Foam should be reassessed after 14 days and alternative wound care considered if necessary.
