Gold-plating the jaws improves the plucking surface and very fine hairs are much easier to catch.
Each pair of tweezers must close tightly at the tip. If you press the tweezers together and hold them up to the light, there should be no light gap visible through the tips. Only then will they pluck even the finest hairs. To ensure this, each pair of tweezers is held under light pressure against a precisely flat, coated steel disc. The inner edges of the tip are ground flat and therefore close precisely. In order to maintain the spring force, tweezers have a so-called intermediate piece on the legs where the welding point is slightly raised.
