Hirudoid gel, 40 G

1. WHAT IS HIRUDOID GEL AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

Mucopolysaccharide polysulphuric acid ester, the active ingredient in Hirudoid, has an
anti-inflammatory effect. It prevents the formation and promotes the resolution
of superficial blood clots, bruises and swelling, and promotes the
regeneration of connective tissue.
Hirudoid Gel is used for the local treatment of:
- Blunt injuries, with or without bruising
- Inflammation of superficial veins, provided these cannot be treated
.

2. WHAT SHOULD YOU BE AWARE OF BEFORE USING HIRUDOID GEL
?

Hirudoid Gel must not be used
- if you are hypersensitive to mucopolysaccharide polysulphuric acid esters or
any of the other ingredients of Hirudoid Gel
- on open wounds, inflamed areas, or in cases of suppurative conditions or skin infections
- on the eyes or mucous membranes
Particular caution is required when using Hirudoid Gel
If symptoms persist or if the expected improvement does not occur following use
, medical advice should be sought as soon as possible.
When using Hirudoid Gel with other medicines
Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking /
or have recently taken or used, even if they are
over-the-counter medicines.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
This product may be used during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding.
Driving and operating machinery
To date, no effects on the ability to drive or operate
machinery.
Important information about certain other ingredients in Hirudonid Gel
Propylene glycol may cause skin irritation.

3. HOW SHOULD HIRUDOID GEL BE USED?

To open the tube for the first time, pierce the aluminium foil at the opening with the pin

Apply a 3–5 cm strip of gel (or more if necessary) to the affected area once or several times a day

Treatment usually lasts up to 10 days for blunt trauma and
superficial phlebitis, 1–2 weeks.
Hirudoid Gel is also suitable for use with physical therapy methods, such as
phonophoresis. If Hirudoid is to be used in conjunction with iontophoresis,
the gel should be applied beneath the cathode.
Use in children and adolescents
There is insufficient experience with children and adolescents. Therefore,
its use in this age group is not recommended.

4. WHAT SIDE EFFECTS ARE POSSIBLE?

Like all medicines, Hirudoid Gel can cause side effects, although these do not necessarily

Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the listed
side effects significantly affect you, or if you notice any side effects not
listed in this leaflet.
Skin hypersensitivity reactions may occur in rare cases, but
but usually disappear once the medicine is stopped.

5. HOW SHOULD HIRUDOID GEL BE STORED?

No special storage conditions are required for this medicine.
Keep out of the reach of children.
Do not use Hirudoid Gel after the expiry date stated on the outer carton
. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month.
The medicine must not be disposed of in waste water or household waste. Ask
your pharmacist how to dispose of the medicine when you no longer need it.
This helps to protect the environment.

What Hirudoid Gel contains
- The active ingredient is mucopolysaccharide polysulphuric acid ester.
100 g of gel contains:
Mucopolysaccharide polysulphuric acid ester 0.3 g
(organo-heparinoid ‘Luitpold’) equivalent to 25,000 E.*
* Units determined by the activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT).
- The other ingredients are: isopropanol, carbomer, propylene glycol, fragrance oil,
sodium hydroxide, purified water
