The term niacin or vitamin B3 refers to two substances: Nicotinic acid and nicotinamide/nicotinamide. They differ only slightly from each other and have the same effect in the body. Niacin is contained in many animal and plant foods, but in very small quantities. Only unusual foods such as liver, sardines or peanuts contain a lot of niacin. Vitamin B3 plays a role in protein, fat and carbohydrate metabolism and contributes to energy production. The need for vitamin B3 can be increased in breastfeeding mothers, those with digestive disorders and those who abuse alcohol.
