Gall Pharma Lutein Capsules are a dietary supplement containing 6 mg of the carotenoid lutein per capsule. It has a preventive effect on age-related eye diseases, protects against free radicals and supports visual acuity.

Lutein belongs to the carotenoid group. Just as beta-carotene, as provitamin A, is of central importance for vision and the entire metabolism, lutein and zeaxanthin also play an important role for the eye. The yellow carotenoid lutein is found in particularly high concentrations in the human eye. It is assumed that lutein protects the visual cells in the retina from damage caused by blue light and free radicals and can therefore support healthy vision. Lutein is found in all green leafy vegetables and various types of fruit.

The yellow carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin protect the eye from damage caused by (sun)light. Lutein and zeaxanthin are found in particularly high concentrations in the yellow spot, in the retina of the eye. The two carotenoids are selectively accumulated in the yellow spot. Lutein ensures sharp vision in the macula. There is evidence that it protects the sensory cells of the retina (photoreceptors) from damage caused by light, which is primarily caused by free radicals. Lutein absorbs blue light before it reaches the photoreceptors. This prevents the formation of free radicals that damage the retina. Lutein therefore reduces the risk of age-related eye diseases such as macular degeneration etc.
