Gall Pharma Lipoic Acid Capsules is a dietary supplement containing 150 mg alpha lipoic acid per capsule. This has a positive effect on memory, heart, nerves, liver, kidneys, protects against free radicals and provides energy.

Alpha lipoic acid, also known as thioctic acid, is a vitamin-like endogenous substance that is mainly found in tissues with a high mitochondrial density and intensive energy metabolism, e.g. the heart and liver have high concentrations. The content of alpha lipoic acid in plant foods (e.g. potatoes) is only low. As a coenzyme, this endogenous substance is involved in numerous metabolic processes.

As an antioxidant, it has a broad spectrum of activity, as thioctic acid is able to develop its protective potential in hydrophilic and lipophilic compartments due to the fact that it occurs as a lipoic acid/dihydrolipoic acid redox system. It not only ensures antioxidant protection of proteins, lipids and DNA but also regenerates other antioxidants such as vitamins E and C as well as L-glutathione.

In addition, alpha lipoic acid inhibits certain pro-inflammatory factors, increases the cellular uptake of cysteine and thus the body's own production of reduced glutathione, which in turn is essential for maintaining immunocompetence. Alpha lipoic acid reacts with heavy metals through chelation and regenerates the liver by improving hepatocellular detoxification.

Possible causes for an increased need for alpha lipoic acid are carbohydrate metabolism disorders such as diabetes mellitus and radical-associated diseases such as Alzheimer's, diabetes and cancer. Lipoic acid alleviates micro- and macroangiopathies as a consequence of diabetes. This micronutrient also leads to an increase in glucose uptake and oxidation as well as increased glycogen synthesis. Studies have shown that lipoic acid leads to a significant improvement in neuropathic symptoms (pain, paraesthesia, burning), to a normalisation of nerve conduction velocity and to an increase in nerve growth factor in the peripheral nerve.

• Adults: Take 2 x 1 capsule daily with liquid on an empty stomach or 30 minutes before meals.
• Notes: Possible enhancement of the effect of insulin or oral antidiabetics, loss of effect of cisplatin, increased copper excretion (Wilson's disease). It is recommended that zinc, copper, iron or magnesium are taken at a distance. Caution should be exercised in cases of pronounced vitamin B1 deficiency, pregnancy, breastfeeding and alcoholics. Nausea and vomiting may occur in rare cases.
