- Eleutherococcus senticosus, also known asEleutherococcus root or taiga root, belongs to the Araliaceae family. Due to its occurrence in Siberia, it is also known as taiga root or Siberian ginseng. The plant is also native to Japan, Korea and northern China. The main constituents are lignans, phenylpropane derivatives, coumarins, saponins, polysaccharides, sterols and other compounds labelled eleutheroside A to g. The parts of the plant used are the underground organs. Taiga root is often used as an alternative to ginseng (Panax ginseng). Although the two plants differ in their ingredients, the areas of application are similar. They have adaptogenic properties, which are intended to increase performance and resilience as well as resistance to stress in a non-specific way.
