Collagen is mainly found in connective tissue, tendons and ligaments, but is also an essential component of bones and cartilage, where it provides strength. In the skin, this structural protein is an important building block for connective tissue - after all, it consists of 70% collagen and forms a kind of scaffolding over which the skin stretches.
