Camu camu (Myrciaria dubia) is a low shrub native to the Amazon rainforest in South America. The round, reddish fruits with their yellow flesh are utilised. Traditionally, a juice is made from it. The fruits have a high vitamin C content, which is approx. 30 - 40 times higher than that of oranges and amounts to between 2,000 and 3,000 mg of vitamin C per 100g of fruit. Camu camu is the best-known plant rich in vitamin C.

Camu camu is particularly effective when taken on an empty stomach. Camu camu is also traditionally taken by indigenous people for its astringent, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.
