Our skin protects itself through balanced sebum production. This keeps it supple and protects it from germs and pollutants. Among other things, our body needs a balanced supply of the trace element zinc for this. Most sebaceous glands are closely associated with body hair in the scalp area, the T-zone on the face, the genital area and on the front and rear midline of the upper body.

Only a few are on hairless areas such as the eyelids and the mucous membranes of the mouth and genitals. The soles of the feet and palms of the hands, on the other hand, are free of sebaceous glands. Environmental influences, strong sunlight, hormonal changes in youth, but also in old age and a lack of a healthy diet put a strain on sebum production. Clogged sebaceous glands or dry and itchy skin can be the result.
