The common shepherd's purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris (L.) Med.) belongs to the cruciferous family (Brassicaceae). Hildegard von Bingen already knew about its positive effects. In folk medicine, the plant is primarily used as a gargle solution or mouthwash. Shepherd's purse has also always been used externally in folk medicine for superficial wounds. Internally, it is used for menstrual cramps, stomach complaints and kidney problems.
