What is herpes labialis?
- Herpes labialis is a herpes simplex virus infection that manifests as a cluster of blisters on the lips. These blisters are also known as ‘cold sores’.
What are the symptoms of oral herpes?
- The first symptoms are a warm, tingling sensation on the lip, as well as the appearance of reddish patches. Within a few hours, fluid-filled blisters begin to form. Triggers for cold sores can include a weakened immune system, fever, menstruation, stress, strong sunlight or the consumption of certain foods. Cold sores can recur repeatedly, as the virus remains in the body after the initial infection and can be reactivated by the triggers mentioned above.
How does Erapatch work?
- The soft polyurethane disc of the plaster contains a hypoallergenic adhesive to which hyaluronic acid has been added. Hyaluronic acid has the ability to retain large amounts of water, causing moisture to build up beneath the plaster, which promotes wound healing and relieves itching for 12 hours. In addition, the plaster forms a protective barrier against environmental factors. This helps to reduce the risk of infection and protect the skin from scarring.
When should you use ERAPATCH?
- ERAPATCH can be used at any stage of a cold sore outbreak. It is particularly useful if you have missed the opportunity to apply an antiviral cold sore cream, such as ERAZABAN®. This is the case when distinct blisters are already visible (usually from the 2nd or 3rd day after the first signs appear). Applying the patch reduces the risk of transmission and of scratching the blisters. Pain, itching and a feeling of tightness subside.
How long should you use ERAPATCH?
- ERAPATCH should ideally be worn round the clock until the cold sores have healed. The patch usually comes off after about 12 hours and should then be replaced with a new one.
Is ERAPATCH gentle on the skin?
- ERAPATCH is dermatologically tested, hypoallergenic and can therefore also be used on sensitive skin.
Can you apply make-up over ERAPATCH?
- ERAPATCH can be covered with lipstick or make-up, making the already barely visible patch virtually invisible.
