What is Bacillus subtilis?
Bacillus subtilis is a bacterium that occurs naturally in the human gut. The bacterial strain used, Bacillus subtilis CU1, has been extensively researched, is patented and is highly stable. Bacillus subtilis is highly resistant to stomach acid, enabling the bacterium to pass through the gastrointestinal tract virtually unscathed.
Bacillus subtilis has for some time been regarded as a new ‘super-bacterium’ and is therefore the subject of many scientific studies. 1 capsule of Bacillus subtilis plus contains 2.5 billion viable bacteria.
What is nattokinase?
Nattokinase is an enzyme which, like vitamin K2, is found in abundance in the traditional Japanese speciality nattō. The enzyme is produced during the fermentation of soya beans using the bacterial strain Bacillus subtilis natto. The bacteria produce the enzyme in order to digest the soya proteins.
The nattokinase contained in Bacillus subtilis plus is characterised by high enzymatic activity. 1 capsule of Bacillus subtilis plus contains 1,000 FU (enzyme activity) or 50 mg of nattokinase.
Important micronutrients forblood vessels³ andblood clotting²,the immune system¹ and mucous membranes⁵
Bacillus subtilis plus contains vitamin K in the form of long-chain vitamin K2 (all-trans MK-7). Vitamin K2 MK-7 is the most biologically active form of vitamin K and is significantly more stable (half-life of approx. 3 days) than vitamin K1 (1–2 hours). Very little vitamin K2 MK-7 is obtained through the diet; it is found in large quantities only in the fermented soya product nattō.
Vitamin K2 supports normal blood clotting by facilitating the formation of both clotting factors and anti-clotting factors, in particular protein S.
Bacillus subtilis plus also contains the micronutrients vitamin A, vitamin C and zinc, which are important for the immune system. Vitamin A contributes to the normal function of the mucous membranes (e.g. in the gut and respiratory tract). It is beneficial to take vitamin A in the form of retinol (active vitamin A), as only a small proportion of the provitamin A (beta-carotene) found in vegetables and fruit is converted into active vitamin A.
The micronutrients vitamin C and zinc form part of the antioxidant system and protect cells from oxidative stress. Vitamin C also supports normal collagen formation for the normal function of blood vessels.
1 capsule of Bacillus subtilis plus contains 240 μg of retinol equivalents of vitamin A, 18 µg of vitamin K2 (all-trans MK-7), 24 mg of vitamin C and 5 mg of zinc.
The micronutrients contained in Bacillus subtilis plus can make a scientifically proven contribution to your health and to the following normal bodily functions:
- 1supportingtheimmune system – with vitamin A, vitamin C and zinc
- 2supporting normal blood clotting – with vitamin K
- 3supporting normal collagenformationfor the normal function of blood vessels – with vitamin C
