What is coenzyme Q10?

Coenzyme Q10 is a natural substance produced by the body itself. It is responsible for the production of over 90 per cent of our body’s energy (ATP) in the mitochondria. Concentrations of coenzyme Q10 are particularly high in the heart, muscles and organs that require a lot of energy (e.g. the kidneys and liver).

When should I take coenzyme Q10?

As we age (from the age of 50 onwards), the body’s own production of coenzyme Q10 decreases. Reduced levels of coenzyme Q10 then have a negative effect on the body’s energy supply. Cholesterol-lowering drugs (statins) also inhibit the production of coenzyme Q10. As a result, these otherwise beneficial medicines often unintentionally lead to tiredness, exhaustion or muscle discomfort. In both cases, taking a coenzyme Q10 supplement is both sensible and important.

Dr. Böhm® Coenzyme Q10: the ideal supplement

Dr Böhm® Coenzyme Q10 is your daily companion from the age of 50 and whilst taking cholesterol-lowering drugs (statins). The capsules combine coenzyme Q10 in a particularly high dose (100 mg) with the essential vitamin B12 and thiamine (vitamin B1).

Coenzyme Q10: As we age and when taking cholesterol-lowering drugs (statins), the body’s own production of coenzyme Q10 is reduced. This leads to a reduced supply of energy.
Thiamine contributes to normal heart function.
Vitamin B12 also plays an important role in reducing tiredness and fatigue. Furthermore, together with vitamin B12, it contributes to normal energy metabolism.

Directions for use

Take 1 capsule daily, whole, with a little liquid, preferably with or after a meal. If your requirements are higher, the dose may be increased to 2 capsules during the first 2 weeks.
Notes: Coenzyme Q10 is structurally similar to the fat-soluble vitamin K2 and may reduce the effectiveness of certain anticoagulant medicines (anticoagulants from the group of vitamin K antagonists, such as Marcumar). However, this could not be confirmed in a clinical trial involving 100 mg of coenzyme Q10.¹ Nevertheless, we recommend that blood clotting levels be monitored if taken alongside vitamin K antagonists.
