DermaPlast® Compress Gel coated wound dressing 5 x 7.5 cm, 20 ST

DermaPlast® Compress Gel is a gel-coated wound dressing for covering burns, grazes, cuts or lacerations. The wound dressing is highly absorbent and the gel keeps the edges of the wound soft and supple. The gel coating helps prevent the dressing from sticking to the wound.

What is DermaPlast® Compress Gel?

DermaPlast® Compress Gel is a highly absorbent wound dressing coated with polysaccharide (natural starch). On contact with the wound, this coating forms a gel. It prevents the absorbent core from sticking to the wound and has a slight initial cooling effect. 

What is its intended use? 

DermaPlast® Compress Gel is a single-use, non-sterile wound dressing intended for the treatment of bleeding, weeping and dry wounds such as cuts and grazes, minor burns (Grade 1 – 2a), bruises and lacerations. 

What are the benefits of DermaPlast® Compress Gel? 

The gel, which forms on contact with the wound, offers the following benefits: 

• It has a mild initial cooling effect. 
• It cleanses the wound of blood and wound exudate. 
• It reduces the tendency of the absorbent layer to stick to the wound, making dressing changes virtually painless. 
• The gel keeps the wound edges soft and supple, and most of the newly formed tissue remains intact during dressing changes, meaning the wound is only minimally disturbed during the healing process.

Directions for use

First, peel off the protective film from the coating and place the coated (shiny) side onto the wound. For dry wounds, the dressing can be moistened, for example with Ringer’s solution or a wound gel, to further minimise the risk of the wound sticking to the dressing. Now secure the dressing using a suitable fixative such as a adhesive plaster (e.g. DermaPlast® Sparablanc or Isopor) or a fixative bandage (e.g. DermaPlast® CoFix). If the compress sticks to the wound, soak it thoroughly and leave it to soak for a few minutes before carefully removing it.
