DermaPlast® Compress Gel is a gel-coated wound dressing for covering burns, abrasions, cuts and lacerations. The wound dressing is highly absorbent and the gel keeps the wound edges soft and supple. The gel coating prevents it from sticking to the wound.

What is DermaPlast® Compress Gel?

DermaPlast® Compress Gel is a highly absorbent wound dressing coated with polysaccharide (natural starch). On contact with the wound, this coating forms a gel. It prevents the absorbent pad from sticking to the wound and has a slight initial cooling effect.

What is the intended use?

DermaPlast® Compress Gel is a single-use, non-sterile wound dressing for the treatment of bleeding, oozing and dry wounds such as cuts and abrasions, minor burns (grade 1 - 2a), contusions and lacerations.

What are the advantages of DermaPlast® Compress Gel?

The gel that forms in contact with the wound offers the following advantages:

• It exerts a slight initial cooling effect.
• It cleanses the wound of blood and wound secretions.
• It reduces the adhesion of the absorbent body to the wound, so changing the dressing is less painful.
• The gel keeps the wound edges soft and supple and the newly formed tissue remains largely intact when the dressing is changed, i.e. the wound is only minimally disturbed during healing.

Application

First remove the protective film from the coating and place the coated (shiny) side on the wound. In the case of dry wounds, the compress can be moistened with Ringer's solution or a wound gel, for example, to further minimise the possibility of wound adhesion. Now secure the dressing with a suitable fixative such as a fixation plaster (e.g. DermaPlast® Sparablanc or Isopor) or a fixation bandage (e.g. DermaPlast® CoFix). In the event of adhesion to the wound, soak the dressing and allow it to soak for a few minutes before carefully removing the dressing.
