Japanese knotweed (Fallopia japonica) is also known colloquially as Japanese winged knotweed, Kamchatka knotweed or Japanese knotweed. Its leaves have a rounded, heart-shaped form and the flower colour is white. This originally Asian plant can be found in forests, hedgerows and riverbanks.
As the name suggests, knotweed originates from Japan, China and Korea and belongs to the knotweed family. In Japan, the young shoots are even eaten as a vegetable and its young shoots are steamed or made into compote. Knotweed is harvested from April to October and the roots, leaves and shoots that sprout in early summer are all usable parts of the plant.
In spring, young shoots sprout from the roots, which can reach a height of up to 4 metres within a short time. Under favourable conditions, the plant can achieve a considerable growth of up to 30 cm per day. As it is a very dominant plant, Japanese knotweed is now also growing throughout Europe. With a tendency to strongly displace other plants, it is very widespread despite strong control measures. One reason for this is its successful use as animal feed, for energy production and for the remediation of soils contaminated with heavy metals. Japanese knotweed is also used as a plant slurry in gardens and agriculture to combat mildew, mould and leaf fungus.
We carefully collect the Japanese knotweed for our tinctures exclusively outdoors by hand. We use the whole herb of the plant for our full tinctures. The alcoholic extract extracts both water-soluble and fat-soluble ingredients so that all the active ingredients of Japanese knotweed are available in the tinctures. Our Japanese knotweed tincture matures for at least three months before bottling. To guarantee the best quality, we do not use any chemicals or additives during production.| ML: | 100 |
