Canesten® Clotrimazole 0.5 g soft capsule for vaginal use, 1 ST

The active ingredient in Canesten Clotrimazole 0.5 g soft capsules is clotrimazole, which belongs to the imidazole group . Clotrimazole has a broad spectrum of activity against fungi, meaning it destroys fungi and inhibits their growth. Clotrimazole is also effective against microorganisms such as dermatophytes, yeasts and moulds.

Canesten Clotrimazole 0.5 g Soft Capsules are used to treat infections of the vagina and external female genitalia caused by microorganisms sensitive to clotrimazole . These infections are usually caused by the Candida yeast. Symptoms include itching, a burning sensation and vaginal discharge.

This medicine is intended for use in adults and adolescents aged 16 years and over.

Directions for use

Insert one soft capsule deep into the vagina in the evening as a single dose. Treatment with Canesten Clotrimazole 0.5 g soft capsules is not recommended during menstruation. Treatment should be completed before menstruation begins. If your partner has symptoms of a fungal infection, they should be treated at the same time.

Method of use with applicator:

Before going to bed, insert the soft capsule as deeply as possible into the vagina using the applicator provided.

1. Pull the applicator plunger out as far as it will go. Place the soft capsule into the applicator.
2. Secure the soft capsule firmly in the applicator holder by turning it gently.
3. Insert the applicator with the soft capsule deep into the vagina. This is best achieved whilst lying on your back with your legs slightly bent. Push the plunger all the way into the applicator. Keep the plunger pressed in whilst removing the applicator.

Using the soft capsule without the applicator: If you are pregnant, insert the soft capsule using your fingers.

Ingredients

• The active ingredient is clotrimazole. 1 soft capsule contains 0.5 g of clotrimazole.
• The other ingredients are: gelatine, glycerol, white petrolatum, heavy paraffin, purified water, titanium dioxide (E171), quinoline yellow (E104), yellow orange S (E110), lecithin (E322), medium-chain triglycerides.
