The active ingredients in Canesten Bifonazol comp. ointment + nail set are bifonazole and urea. Bifonazole is a broad-spectrum antimycotic for the treatment of fungal diseases (mycoses) of the skin.
The mode of action on skin fungi is fungicidal and inhibits the growth of yeasts.
Urea is a substance that also occurs in the human body. With the special preparation in Canesten Bifonazol comp. ointment + nail set, the infected nail keratin is softened by urea. This leads to bloodless and painless detachment of the fungus-infected nails.
Canesten Bifonazole comp. ointment + nail set is used for the nail-detaching treatment of fungal infections of the nails on hands and feet with a simultaneous antifungal effect.

Dosage form
Directions for use
- For local application to the nails.
- After the ointment has been applied to the diseased nails, the fingernails or toenails are covered with the enclosed plaster and remain in the plaster bandage for 24 hours.
- The plaster bandage should be changed daily. Each time the dressing is changed, the fingers or toes (or the hand or foot) are bathed in warm water for approx. 10 minutes.
- The softened, diseased nail substance is then scraped off with the scraper provided.
- Finally, dry the treated nails, apply the ointment again as described above and cover the nails with the plaster bandage.
- Soak the foot or hand in warm water for approx. 10 minutes and then dry well.
- Apply a short strip of ointment to the affected nail. The ointment has a firm consistency and can be applied precisely without running. Do not rub in.
- Apply one half of the hygiene plaster to the top of the toe or finger as shown. The illustration shows the underside of the toe. Important! For all nails except the big toe, cut the hygiene plasters in half.
- Fold the side adhesive surfaces downwards and press on. The illustration shows the underside of the toe.
- Now place the other half of the hygiene plasters downwards over the toe. Then pull the side adhesive surfaces upwards around the nail and press firmly into place. The illustration shows the underside of the toe.
- The hygiene plaster now sits over the diseased nail like a protective cap. The nail remains in the plaster dressing for 24 hours.
- The hygiene plaster is removed after 24 hours. Soak the foot or hand in warm water again and then dry well.
- Use the enclosed spatula to remove as much of the softened nail substance as possible. The healthy nail substance remains intact!
- Treatment with the ointment and the plaster bandage must be carried out until all affected nail parts have been completely removed with the scraper. This generally takes 7-14 days, depending on the extent of the infection and nail thickness. If after 7 - 14 days not all infected nail parts have been removed and the nail bed is not smooth, a doctor should be consulted. After nail removal, a consistent antifungal treatment with Canesten Bifonazole cream should be carried out for approx. 4 weeks. It is important that the detachment of the nail plate is complete. If you are not sure, ask your doctor.
- Lasting success in the treatment of fungal nail disease depends to a large extent on the careful removal of the affected parts of the nail and subsequent consistent treatment with Canesten Bifonazole Cream.
- A plaster allergy is generally possible. In such cases, please consult your doctor about using other plasters or switching to rubber finger sticks.
- On average, the ointment and plasters are sufficient for 30 applications; e.g. 3 infected nails can be treated with 1 pack for 10 days.
- If the enclosed plasters are used up before the ointment, please buy waterproof plasters and cut them to size.
