Burgerstein Beta-Carotene Capsules are a dietary supplement with natural beta-carotene from marine algae. Supports skin health and eyesight*.
Natural beta-carotene from marine algae.
Burgerstein beta-carotene contains natural beta-carotene extracted from seaweed. Beta-carotene can be converted into vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A contributes to the maintenance of normal skin and normal vision.
Beta-carotene is a precursor to vitamin A - hence the name 'provitamin A'. Beta-carotene is converted into vitamin A by the body as required.
One of the most important carotenoids is beta-carotene, which acts as a bioactive precursor for vitamin A. This means that it is indirectly, but significantly involved in embryonic development, visual function and endothelial cell differentiation. Beta-carotene itself is increasingly stored in the skin and in the cells of the retina, where it can act directly as an antioxidant against UV-induced free radicals.
Beta-carotene supports* ...
- ... the skin and mucous membranes: Vitamin A contributes to the maintenance of normal skin and mucous membranes.
- ... for the eyes: Vitamin A contributes to the maintenance of normal vision.
- ... with increased sun exposure on holiday & summer: beta-carotene contributes to the maintenance of normal skin (antioxidant)
Beta-carotene is the most common naturally occurring carotene and is an orange-red secondary plant pigment. Carrots and pumpkin, yellow to orange fruits such as persimmons, apricots, papayas, mangoes, nectarines, peaches, pears, sea buckthorn or dark green vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, endive, chicory, cress, beetroot leaves or dandelion are particularly rich in beta-carotene.
Beta-carotene itself acts as an antioxidant in the body and protects against oxidative damage. There is also evidence that it increases the skin's light protection: beta-carotene is deposited in the various cell layers of the skin, where it acts as an antioxidant and light filter. In this way, it supports the skin's own sun protection mechanisms [Sies et al., 2004].
Beta-carotenoids and sunlight
Photooxidative processes* play a significant role in the development of skin changes and skin damage. Increased UV exposure not only occurs during the summer and holiday season, but can also occur during short stays outdoors, where local sun protection (sun cream) is usually not used. Carotenoids, especially beta-carotene, are used for long-term prophylaxis against light damage. The intake of beta-carotene over a period of ten weeks leads to a reduced development of UV-induced erythema. Another study also shows that an increased intake of beta-carotene provides significant protection against skin ageing. However, additional local measures (sun protection) are essential to ensure complete protection in the case of strong sun exposure *Photooxidative processes: When high-intensity light hits the skin, energy is released which leads to the oxidation process. The accumulation of reactive oxygen damages the skin.
