Bios L-Phenylalanine 500 mg capsules are a food supplement containing the essential amino acid L-phenylalanine.

Like all proteinogenic amino acids, the essential, aromatic amino acid L-phenylalanine is involved in the formation of proteins. It serves as a precursor to the amino acid L-tyrosine, which in turn is the starting substance for the formation of the mood-enhancing neurotransmitters dopamine, noradrenaline and adrenaline. These messenger substances play a central role in controlling our emotions. An imbalance in their production or availability can affect mood and general well-being. Phenylalanine is also involved in the synthesis of phenylethylamine (PEA), a stimulating neurotransmitter that is increasingly released during euphoric moments. This has vitalising and slightly stimulating properties.

These neurotransmitters are increasingly used up under high everyday stress levels, which can lead to a shortage. This in turn could lead to mood imbalances. L-phenylalanine is also the starting material for the formation of the thyroid hormones thyroxine and triiodothyronine, as well as melanin, which is responsible for the pigmentation of the skin.
