Bios Acetyl-L-Carnitine 500 mg capsules are a food supplement containing acetyl-L-carnitine. Acetyl-L-carnitine, the acetylated form of carnitine, is formed naturally in the body and metabolised to carnitine in the blood.

Carnitine is a key metabolite in the transport of fatty acids into the mitochondria - the power plants of the cells - where they are used to generate energy by means of β-oxidation. It is only with the help of the transport molecule carnitine that the mitochondrial membrane becomes passable for the fatty acids. Carnitine therefore plays an essential role in fatty acid metabolism. In contrast to carnitine, acetyl-L-carnitine is able to cross the blood-brain barrier - a natural barrier between the bloodstream and the central nervous system. This makes acetyl-L-carnitine the most effective compound for the brain. As carnitine is mainly found in animal products, supplementation is particularly recommended for vegetarians or vegans. Acetyl-L-Carnitine 250 mg Bios Capsules are characterised by high bioavailability and can therefore quickly serve as a source of nutrients for the brain.
