- A urinary tract infection is a bacterial infection of the urinary tract thatcauses inflammation of the mucous membranes of the urinary tract (ureters, bladder and urethra) and leads to symptoms such as a burning sensation when urinating, cramping pain, frequent urge to urinate, cloudy urine, etc.
- A urinary tract infection is usually triggered by bacteria (e.g. E. coli) and almost always occurs as a so-called ascending infection, i.e. the bacteria begin to ascend from the urethra to the bladder ("cystitis") and sometimes continue towards the kidneys.
- Urinary tract infections/bladder infections therefore mainly affect women, as their urethra is much shorter than that of men. Bacteria can therefore ascend into the bladder more quickly and colonise and multiply there.
- Urinary tract infections have a high tendency to recur. Around half of all women have a urinary tract infection once in their lifetime, and in around 20 to 30% a recurrence occurs . If there are more than two urinary tract infections per six months or more than three per year, this is referred to as recurrent urinary tract infections, which leads to a significant impairment in the quality of life of those affected. In these cases, gentle treatment over a longer period of timeis recommended.

- D-mannose is a natural bioactive monosaccharide that also occurs naturally in small quantities in the urinary tract and protects the body against harmful bacteria.
- The cranberry fruit contains the health-promoting secondary plant substances proanthocyanidins (PAC), which can help to maintain a healthy urinary tract.
- D-mannose and cranberry PAC can block the adhesion of bacteria to the bladder mucosa in different ways. The two ingredients therefore complement each other ideally, as they can prevent certain bacteria from rising in the urinary tract.
- In addition, vitamins C and D3 have an important function in the defence against infections and thus contribute to the success of the therapy.
Dosage form
How to use
- Dissolve 1 sachet daily in a glass of water (approx. 200 ml) and drink (ideally in the evening before going to bed). It is recommended to take over a longer period of time.
- BIOGELAT® UroProtect granules dissolve immediately and can be taken as a hot or cold drink.
- In order to maintain the desired high concentration of D-mannose in the bladder , it is recommended not to drink a large amount of liquidimmediately after ingestion .
